WordPress is an extremely popular bit of blogging software that rose to fame from
b2 which was one of the first blogging tools available. As WordPress is
completely free and has a huge base of plugins and themes it is the top choice for anyone who wants to start a blog or even a full fledged website. I use WordPress for my self-hosted blog and-with its good SEO (Search Engine Optimization)-has made my site grown to over 3,000 unique page views per week. WordPress is also really easy to install. So easy you can do it in 5 minutes or so. And with scripts like
this one you can install WordPress without any serious work. Though I do have some problems with it.
- Not as secure as other blog software - Since WordPress is so widely used, many hacks have been designed for it.
- Menu system can become confusing - If you add a lot of plugins to your blog and have custom post types defined in WordPress the menus can become a hassle to look though.
- With popularity comes monetization - Sites like WooThemes make fabulous themes for WordPress but you have to pay for them. And they're not cheap either at $70 for three themes. Some can even cost up to $5,000!
So there you have it. WordPress... reviewed. Sometime in the future I will do a review of WordPress.com. Hope my review helped you and as always keep on bloggin'!
